Cactus Cares Employee Roll Out

Launching an employee community outreach initiative

Overview

Cactus Feeders, one of the largest beef and pork producers in the United States, has a long history and commitment helping build strong communities. Cactus Cares, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to feeding a hungry world, starting with family, friends, and neighbors; launched its campaign to employee-owners to encourage participation and a commitment to helping build strong communities where Cactus operates.

A reusable lunch sack that housed the opportunity guide was given to all employees as both a introduction to the nonprofit initiative and hopefully a reminder day in and day out
The opportunity guide was placed inside the reusable lunch sack along with a volunteer pledge form and given out to Cactus employees at the initial Cactus Cares launch meetings

The goal of the internal awareness campaign was to keep a constant reminder for employees that they have an active role in this nonprofit and how it impacts their communities.

Break room posters with tear-off pad of volunteer pledge forms
The juxtaposition of the monotone and color created a nice way to humanize the issues
Social media was used to jump start the launch

Along with the launch we created a series of introduction videos to spread awareness both internally and externally.

Results

Cactus Cares has stepped in to try to help fill the gap in communities where our family, friends, and neighbors live and work. Some initial results include: 90,000 pounds donated; 360,000 servings donated; 21,000 families reached; Collaboration with 11 local-level foundations and institutions; Development of University Meat Laboratory Programs – Ground beef and ground pork are purchased from the University Meat Laboratory and donated to local food pantries and other organizations, creating a multiplication effect- supporting both agricultural education and food pantries using the same dollar.
